The rugged roads and hiking trails of Himachal Pradesh lead to a delightful pilgrimage where stories from Sikh epics: Paonta Sahib are set. It is a Sikh shrine in Himachal Pradesh; pilgrims came here to pay tribute to the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh and Sikh leader Banda Bahadur. The holy city is located along the banks of the Yamuna River in the Sirmour region of Himachal Pradesh. On a pilgrimage to Paonta Sahib, a visitor can explore Paonta Sahib Gurudwara, Gurudwara Shergarh Sahib, Assan Lake and many ancient temples.
The most interesting place of religious town is Paonta Sahib Gurudwara. It is the place where Guru Gobind Singh wrote the faithful Dasam Granth. Gurudwara got its name from the facts that Guru Gobind Singh ji put his foot here or simply because he lost his ornament on the Yamuna River which he used to wear on his feet. Gurudwara was built later, and one can see some of Guru ji objects here and today. Within the walls of Gurudwara, there is a famous museum, featuring a variety of Sikh Guru prizes such as antiques and weapons.
It is located 12 km from starlit Gurudwara Paonta Sahib by Gurudwara Shergarh Sahib. Gurudwara is a symbol of courage as this was the place where Guru Gobind Singh ji cut off the head of a cannibal with a single blow of his sword. Near Gurudwara Paonta Sahib is Kodri Dak Patthar, a beautiful park with a swimming pool and a mansion. The Patanjali Jyotirlinga Temple is one of the high places worth a visit to Paonta Sahib. This small house has become the talk of the town because large Indian companies have established their own industrial base here, from pharmaceutical manufacturers.
Assan Lake is a man-made 2.4-mile [4 km] long lake that caters to many recreational activities such as rowing, paddling, water skiing and hovercraft. The lake is maintained by the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Department (HPTD) for tourism development.
